For cleaning, certain parts of the breast pump only need to be cleaned with warm water and detergent. Other parts can be disinfected, for example because they come into direct contact with milk. Cleaning and disinfecting are two different types of cleaning that should be done separately for the well-being of the mother and the child. Proper cleaning is also important to keep the breast pump in good condition.
Cleaning: the physical removal of milk residue from the surface of the parts. This can be done with warm water and a mild detergent. Disinfecting: the killing of living organisms such as bacteria or viruses that may be on the surface of the part. There are two 2 ways to sterilise. Boil the parts in a pan of water for 3 minutes. Or steam the parts for 10 minutes in the Difrax microwave steriliser.
